DescriptionVana’s extensive oeuvre spans multiple epochs and media, encompassing oil paintings, drawings, graphics, sculptures, text and typeface works, as well as stage designs for theater, opera, musicals, and feature films. In this sense, his art can be envisioned as a planet — vast, autonomous, and instantly recognizable — reflecting the contradictions of our own realities. Opposites that may initially seem rational are juxtaposed with imagery that exposes the irrationality of perception, where beauty, desolation, and melancholy converge radically and without mediation. These tensions between our own perceptions and reality are manifested in Ohne Titel (Untitled). Here, the viewer encounters an object resembling a wing or extremity of a vastly larger spacecraft. Yet, a mere fragment of a larger whole is depicted, inviting one to examine what truly is depicted in the work. Is it indeed a spacecraft, or is our recognition of such an indication of our perceptual limitations?
